How does an SDG materiality analysis help Pidpa to work sustainably and future-oriented?
Pidpa

Pidpa is working towards sustainable water management. Together with Route 2030, the water company developed an SDG materiality analysis that clarifies priorities, supports strategy, and strengthens reporting. This makes sustainability a strategic compass for both policy and daily operations.
Water is one of our most valuable natural resources. At Pidpa , the Flemish water company responsible for drinking water and water management every day, that responsibility is incredibly tangible. That's why sustainability isn't a slogan for Pidpa, but a strategic compass that guides decisions—ecologically, socially, and economically. But how do you translate such broad ambitions into concrete choices? And how do you determine which sustainability areas truly matter to a water company?
To answer these questions, Pidpa started a collaboration with Route 2030 in 2021 on an SDG-based materiality analysis .
What is an SDG-based materiality analysis?
In collaboration with Route 2030, Pidpa launched a project in 2021 to translate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into concrete, company-specific themes.
A materiality analysis identifies which sustainability goals and initiatives are most relevant to an organization and its stakeholders. For Pidpa, this meant:
Linking SDG goals to operational and strategic business objectives.
Determining priority themes such as water quality, energy efficiency, social engagement and biodiversity.
Creating a stakeholder-supported framework for decision-making and reporting.
What impact did the collaboration with Route 2030 have?
Thanks to this process, Pidpa now has:
SDGs translated into company-specific themes
These material themes provide a strategic compass for sustainability initiatives and align with the expectations of customers, employees and local communities.
A solid foundation for policy and reporting
The analysis supports sustainability strategy, policy development, operational choices and reporting according to international standards such as GRI and CSRD.
A practical tool for inspiration, communication and action
Pidpa can now plan targeted actions , strengthen internal engagement, and communicate results transparently to stakeholders and partners. Route 2030 also facilitated several inspirational sessions for employees to build buy-in and engage everyone.
